On Sunday I went to the Sakura Matsuri – the Cherry Blossom Festival – that took place in Japantown, San Francisco, CA. I figured this would be a great opportunity to experiment with real people who were already expecting pictures being taken of them. With cosplay and street fashion wandering around the vicinity, I felt it was great practice to test my capability to ask people if I could take pictures of them.
The first Royal I took a picture of. I really admired her outfit as well as her make up and friendliness!
At first I was really shy and hesitant because I was not sure how to approach them at all – what if I would make them uncomfortable? What if I was over-stepping a boundary? But I thought that if I did not step out of that limit then I would not get any practice in at all. Once I took that leap, I did, however, notice that I warmed up really fast and I had a lot of fun doing this! Everybody was really friendly and comfortable with my requests, and most – if not all – were particularly photogenic as well.
These fashionable Royals were super photogenic! Loved it!
However, as I had mentioned in my previous post, the soft background is successful if it is further away from the main subjects. But this specific head shot displayed the aperture settings that I was going for. I do know that I can get a full body shot with the same settings, probably not using this specific lens though.
A really cute face mask this adorable Royal is wearing!
All in all, there were some really great outfits and cosplay to see there. A great amount of organic poses and natural smiles which made it much more enjoyable for me!
I also want to take this opportunity to thank all those who let me take a picture of you, it was a great experience for me which I hope it was for you as well!
And this is only the start. My expedition of street photography has just begun and will only expand from here on out. I am definitely looking forward to doing more of this – and hopefully with the proper settings that I am aiming for.
